We gain inspiration from our travels…from the rich textures of a Tuscan olive grove…from the weathered surface of an Australian beachfront fence. And, importantly, we gather inspiration by listening to our distributors and customers.
In 2012 Ian designed our Woodenforge collection, mixing wood and metal in a revolutionary way – four years later the industry has caught up and the style has become highly fashionable.
The collection is a tribute to the pioneering times when the first railway tracks were being laid across the world, forging an alliance between the strong, sleek metal rails and the mighty timber sleepers.
The men who built those railways were carving the modern world out of gigantic natural landscapes, and Ian wanted to recreate this beautiful collaboration between the clean lines of a metal framework and the contrasting colours to be found in timber panels made from reclaimed wood. This contrast of textures and tones evokes an era of staggering industrial achievement, softened with shades of colonial charm.
While in Puglia, Ian was inspired by the beauty, strength and character of the local olive trees. Some of them are more than a thousand years old and have contributed all their lives to making Italy the second biggest olive oil producer in the world.
The charm, history and solid nature of the trees led him to create our Black Olive finish, which is designed to bring out the rich, deep textures of the wood. The new finish will be available in 2016.
This home office collection was designed by Ian’s wife and PGT-RECLAIMED’s brand manager, Yung, for their new house because she loved the TuscanSpring stripped wood look that Ian had created. Everybody who visited their home wanted to know where they could buy the pieces for themselves and so, after two years, they have added them to the hugely popular TuscanSpring collection.
Every item in our Cintra Collection carries a special stamp “PGT-RECLAIMED Signature Collection”.
Ian carried the idea of creating an elegant design that would appeal to both men and women in his head for three years. Then he and Yung visited Sintra in Portugal and, just like that town’s “Miracle of the Roses”, the idea blossomed. Within three weeks of their return he had sketched a range consisting of forty four different designs.
Taking a full year to develop, our Sundried Ash finish is an homage to the pioneering spirit of the 19th Century where colonies were being built and cities constructed at a frantic pace. People were moving and relocating and the style of home furniture began to reflect this. Moving away from the heavy structures of Georgian inspired furniture, furniture began to soften with lighter timber and a more cottage look and feel. Our Sundried Ash finish will bring a historic warmth to any home.
